Hon. Mwesigye Frank, a Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) cadre, has criticized National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders for the low amount of funds collected during the send-off of late comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere. According to reports, NUP leaders and supporters managed to collect only UGX 234,500 from approximately 130 attendees. Mwesigye questioned the inadequate financial support, citing that the highest individual contributions reportedly stood at UGX 20,000 and UGX 5,000.

Mwesigye also pointed out that Kapere had previously appealed to Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Joel Ssenyonyi for UGX 100,000 to help him clear his rent, but the request was reportedly not fulfilled. This has sparked debate over political loyalty, financial support, and whether political leaders adequately stand with their supporters during moments of personal crisis. Mwesigye's remarks have highlighted the need for compassion beyond political affiliations, particularly when families are going through difficult times.

In response to the low funds collected, Mwesigye pledged UGX 1 million to Kapere's widow and promised education bursaries for the comedian's children through PLU's Hon. Mulindwa Ryan Kibedi. The support will extend up to Senior Six, showcasing Mwesigye's gesture as an example of compassion and solidarity. He emphasized that humanity, patriotism, and solidarity should take precedence over political differences, especially during difficult times.

The late comedian Kapere was a well-known figure, and his death has sparked reactions from various individuals, including King Saha, who demanded a police investigation into the comedian's death. Mwesigye's criticism of NUP leaders has brought attention to the financial struggles faced by some supporters and the need for adequate support during personal crises.

The incident has also raised questions about the financial capacity of NUP leaders and their ability to support their supporters. With the highest individual contributions standing at UGX 20,000 and UGX 5,000, it is clear that the funds collected were insufficient to provide substantial support to Kapere's family.

Mwesigye's pledge of UGX 1 million and education bursaries for Kapere's children has been seen as a demonstration of commitment to supporting those in need, regardless of political affiliations. This move has sparked discussions about the role of politicians in supporting their supporters and the need for a more compassionate approach to politics.

The controversy surrounding the Kapere fundraiser has highlighted the complexities of politics and the need for leaders to prioritize the needs of their supporters. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how NUP leaders will respond to Mwesigye's criticism and whether they will take steps to improve their support for those in need.
