The Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council of Plateau, Mr Felix Gonung, has vowed to take decisive action against suspected ritual killings in the area. This follows the discovery of two bodies within a month, with vital organs allegedly harvested from the victims. Gonung gave the assurance during an interview with journalists on Friday in Pankshin.

According to Gonung, three suspects were arrested following the discovery of a woman's body last month. Further investigations led to the recovery of suspected fetish substances from the suspects, who have since been transferred to the police headquarters in Jos. The council chairman confirmed that security agencies are also investigating the discovery of a young man's body at Monday Market on October 6.

Gonung stated that the incident might be linked to cult activities among students or criminal elements operating within the student community. He assured residents that his administration is working with security agencies to address the situation and restore peace. The council chairman emphasized that his administration's priority is the safety and well-being of the community.

Gonung disclosed that the council will introduce a policy requiring landlords and hotel operators to provide information about their tenants and guests. This move aims to crack down on criminal syndicates that disguise themselves as students or guests to perpetrate crimes in the community. The policy is expected to enhance security and prevent future incidents.

The council chairman noted that Pankshin has enjoyed relative peace despite security challenges in other parts of the state. However, the recent incidents have understandably heightened residents' concerns. Gonung urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

Gonung called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to tackle the menace. He stressed that security is a collective responsibility and requires a united effort to prevent future incidents. The council chairman reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the lives and property of the community.

Gonung's administration is working to restore and maintain the long-existing peace in the communities. The government's security plans are confidential, but the public will soon feel their results and impact. The council chairman's efforts aim to address the security concerns and provide a safe environment for the residents of Pankshin.
