Ahead of the 2027 elections in Rivers State, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, has stated that he only recognizes God as his political godfather. This declaration was made during an interactive session with members of The Coalition of Rivers State Leaders of Thoughts (CORSLOT) in Port Harcourt. Pidomson emphasized his commitment to ending the politics of godfatherism in the state.

Pidomson argued that the current system of godfatherism has hindered the development of Rivers State. He cited the example of his party's vice presidential candidate, former governor Chibuike Amaechi, who allegedly gave commissioners free rein to operate during his tenure. Pidomson believes that this system has led to a slow pace of development in the state and has resulted in a lack of accountability.

The ADC governorship candidate promised to run an administration anchored on accountability and good governance if elected. He outlined plans to develop the tourism sector, showcase the state's rich cultural heritage, and boost rural development. Additionally, Pidomson aims to aggressively pursue agriculture and the blue economy to ensure food sufficiency in the state.

In a related development, CORSLOT has advised Rivers people to vote for individuals whose programs and intentions align with their needs, rather than voting along party lines. CORSLOT Chairman, High Chief Sunnie Chukumele, emphasized that the organization is non-partisan and committed to promoting the interests of Rivers people.

Chukumele described CORSLOT as a watchdog that provides advisory services to the government and governor of Rivers State. He highlighted the organization's diverse membership, which includes traditional rulers, academics, professionals, and youth leaders. CORSLOT's primary goal is to serve as a feedback loop for citizens and promote the well-being of Rivers State.

Meanwhile, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, has warned that anyone who threatens or attacks INEC personnel during the 2027 general elections will face the full weight of the law. Amupitan made this statement during a zonal readiness assessment and interactive staff engagement in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Amupitan emphasized that INEC has implemented a proactive, intelligence-driven security framework, known as the "ICCES Tentacle," to ensure the safety of electoral personnel and infrastructure. The framework includes mapping and mitigating security threats, protecting electoral personnel and infrastructure, and guaranteeing safe access to polling units.
