The author of this article is a beneficiary of Aig-Imoukhuede's philanthropy, which has had a transformative impact on human capital development in Africa's public sector.
In 2016, the author received an offer to study at the University of Oxford's Blavatnik School of Government, but faced a significant funding shortfall. After learning about Aig-Imoukhuede's foundation, which sponsors West African students to study Public Policy at the Blavatnik School, the author reached out to the foundation for support.
Despite initial setbacks, the author received a full tuition scholarship from the University of Oxford and eventually secured funding from Aig-Imoukhuede's foundation to cover living expenses. In return, the author completed a Nigeria-focused internship. This support enabled the author to pursue their Master's degree, along with 35 other Nigerians and Ghanaians.
The AIG MPP scholarships have had a lasting impact, with recipients now working in the public and development sectors in Nigeria and Ghana. Aig-Imoukhuede's philanthropy reflects his conviction that Africa's public sector must be overhauled and staffed with competent individuals. This is further evident in the AIG Public Leaders Programme, a leadership capacity-building initiative.
As Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede celebrates his 60th birthday, his contributions to Africa's public sector development are being celebrated.
