A recent social media post by a Pretoria-based dealer group has hinted at the upcoming arrival of a more powerful engine for the Peugeot Landtrek in South Africa. The post reveals that the Landtrek will soon be equipped with a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, which is expected to bring significant improvements to the vehicle's performance. Currently, the Landtrek is only available with a 1.9-litre Multijet turbodiesel engine.
The 2.2-litre engine, which is already used in the Boxer van and in South America by the Landtrek's sibling, the Fiat Titano and smaller Toro, produces 147kW and 450Nm of torque. It will be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. This development is expected to enhance the Landtrek's capabilities, particularly in terms of towing capacity.
The addition of the 2.2-litre engine will bring the Landtrek's towing capacity up to the industry standard 3 500 kg, an increase from the current 3 000 kg. Aside from the engine upgrade, the Landtrek will also feature an eight-speed automatic gearbox and two-wheel drive in the Allure trim level. These changes are expected to make the Landtrek more competitive in the market.
The Peugeot Landtrek range currently consists of five variants, including four double cabs and one single cab, all powered by the 1.9-litre engine. The introduction of the 2.2-litre engine will provide customers with more options, bringing the total number of engine options to three. The other two options include the 1.9-litre Multijet turbodiesel and a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol engine.
In addition to the engine upgrade, Peugeot has made some subtle exterior changes to the Landtrek and fitted a new seven-inch digital instrument cluster. The vehicle also features the latest software and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto within the 10-inch infotainment system.
