Hundreds of supporters and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state gathered at the party's state secretariat in Minna to receive the party's gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Mohammed Mamman Nami. Nami, a former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), was at the secretariat on a thank-you visit for being made the party's flagbearer in the upcoming general elections. He was accompanied by his running mate, Alhaji Dahiru Dan'azumi Abdul.
During his address, Nami criticized the Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago-led All Progressive Congress (APC) administration for prioritizing projects that do not alleviate the sufferings of citizens. He expressed concern over the huge sums of money spent on projects such as flyovers while many citizens struggle to afford basic necessities like meals. Nami assured Nigerlites of better days ahead if he is voted into office as governor, promising to investigate and recover public funds and properties allegedly acquired by the APC administration.
Nami expressed sadness over the acute water shortage in Minna despite being surrounded by several water bodies. He also highlighted the alarming issue of insecurity in the state, with farmers afraid to return to their farms due to fears of being attacked by armed bandits. The PDP gubernatorial hopeful alleged that some properties were acquired with state resources and located in various countries, including Abuja, Lagos, Dubai, Brazil, Washington, and London.
Nami vowed to recover any assets established to have been acquired with state public funds if he becomes governor. The proceeds from the recovered assets and properties would be channeled into developing Niger state, particularly in education, healthcare, employment, agriculture, and water supply. He pledged to strengthen accountability and ensure public resources are used for projects that directly benefit citizens.
Nami expressed his commitment to public service, citing his tenure as Chairman of the FIRS as evidence of his dedication. He urged residents to remain peaceful and use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to express their frustrations with the APC administration in the upcoming general election. Nami encouraged residents to make informed choices rather than resorting to protests.
The PDP candidate criticized the handling of some government activities, citing recent incidents such as deaths at Government House due to a crowd surge and the deaths of 37 artisanal miners in NSCDC confinement. He emphasized his commitment to having a Niger state that works for everyone. Nami's visit to the party secretariat was a thank-you gesture to the PDP for giving him the opportunity to be the party's flagbearer.
Key issues raised by Nami during his visit include the need for better governance, improved security, and accountability in the use of public resources. He emphasized that his administration would prioritize the welfare of citizens and ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of all. Nami's campaign promises to focus on education, healthcare, and employment, among other areas.
