Aliyu Isa Edu urged the Kwara State Sports Commission, Kwara Football Association, relevant ministries, and engineering authorities to conduct a comprehensive structural and safety assessment of the facility. He also called for the Nigeria Football Federation to participate where its technical or facility standards are applicable.
The advocate emphasized that the assessment should examine the structural integrity of the pavilion, roofing system, steelwork, anchoring, and connections, as well as the quality and specification of materials. He also stressed that corrective work should be carried out in accordance with approved engineering specifications and that affected structures should be certified by qualified independent professionals before spectators are allowed into the facility.
Residents of Lafiagi and the wider Edu Local Government Area have long awaited a quality sporting facility. Aliyu Isa Edu noted that the project should provide a safe environment for athletes and spectators. He added that the incident should serve as a lesson for sports infrastructure development, particularly because stadiums are facilities designed to accommodate large numbers of people.
