Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence in the Allied People’s Movement’s (APM) chances of winning the 2027 general elections. He made this statement at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert, held at the Open Tennis Court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, where he formally received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the APM. The defectors were led by Ajiboye Sangogade, Personal Assistant and loyalist to former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
The governor advised the APC governorship candidate, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli, to focus on persuading the electorate to support him instead of criticizing his administration. Makinde described Alli as a mediocre lawyer with no record of success in legal practice. He expressed confidence that voters would choose the APM candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, a certified accountant, over Alli. Makinde also addressed criticisms that, as an engineer, he powers streetlights with diesel generators, citing the failure of the APC-led Federal Government to resolve Nigeria’s electricity challenges.
Makinde reminded Nigerians of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign promise to fix the nation’s power problem, noting that if the promise had been fulfilled, the situation would have been different. He stated that God has signed off on what the APM is doing, and that is why it is "raining," implying that their victory is only a matter of time. The governor welcomed thousands of APC members into the APM, saying they will win massively in all elections in 2027.
The concert, themed "Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU)," served as the official reception for Sangogade and his supporters into the APM. The event featured performances by Fuji stars, including Alhaji Taye Currency and Aare Rasaq Ayanfe. Top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, were in attendance.
The event was also attended by serving members of the House of Representatives and the Oyo State House of Assembly, commissioners, APM leaders, and other government functionaries. The three APM senatorial candidates, 14 APM House of Representatives candidates, 32 APM House of Assembly candidates, and 33 APM Local Government Chairmanship candidates were present. Makinde’s comments were made in the presence of these high-ranking officials and candidates.
Makinde’s prediction of a landslide victory for the APM in the 2027 elections is based on the party’s growing popularity and the support of the people of Oyo State and Nigerians at large. He emphasized that the APM’s victory is only a matter of time, citing the large number of defectors joining the party. The governor’s confidence in the party’s chances is shared by many of its members and supporters.
