Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) will record a massive victory in the 2027 general election. He made this statement at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Open Tennis Court of Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, where he formally received members of the movement who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to APM. The defectors were led by Ajiboye Sangogade, also known as Boye Nation.
The event drew supporters from several local government areas across Oyo State and featured performances by Fuji musicians. Makinde said he believed APM had the support of God, the people of Oyo State, and Nigerians, which would guarantee its victory in the 2027 elections. He challenged the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to focus on persuading voters to support him rather than criticising his administration.
Makinde defended the professional credentials of APM's governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, and questioned Alli's record in the legal profession. In contrast, he highlighted his engineering career and professional recognition as evidence of his competence. The governor also responded to criticism over the use of diesel generators to power some streetlights in the state, citing Nigeria's wider electricity challenges.
According to Makinde, the issue of power supply is linked to Nigeria's broader electricity challenges, and he referred to President Bola Tinubu's earlier campaign commitment to improving the country's power sector. He expressed optimism about APM's chances in the 2027 elections, stating that "God has signed off on what we are doing, and that is why it is raining."
The concert, themed "Young, United, Unstoppable," featured performances by several Fuji musicians, including Taye Currency and Aare Rasaq Ayanfe. The event was attended by high-ranking government officials, including the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi.
Also in attendance were members of the national and state assemblies, commissioners, APM leaders, and other government officials. The three APM senatorial candidates for Oyo State, 14 House of Representatives candidates, 32 House of Assembly candidates, and the party's 33 local government chairmanship candidates were equally present at the event.
Makinde added that his administration would continue to support the APM's political programme ahead of the 2027 elections. With the defection of APC members to APM, Makinde believes that his party's victory is only a matter of time. The governor's confidence in APM's chances is boosted by the large turnout of supporters at the event.
