The Provost of the Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, has urged students to uphold the ethics and values of the nursing profession. She made the call during a congress with students held at the College premises in Eleyele, Ibadan. Dr. Owolabi emphasized that nursing requires discipline, integrity, dedication, compassion, and a strong sense of responsibility. She stressed that students must demonstrate these qualities during their training to become competent nurses.
Dr. Owolabi specifically admonished students to desist from behaviors such as laziness, improper dressing, indiscipline, and negative attitudes towards their academic pursuits. She explained that the College would not tolerate acts capable of tarnishing its image or compromising the standards of the nursing profession. The Provost warned that students found engaging in such vices would face disciplinary procedures, including suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions.
The Provost encouraged students to be good ambassadors of their families and the College, urging them to conduct themselves responsibly and uphold the institution's good image. She advised them to take their studies seriously, attend lectures regularly, maintain proper dressing, and conduct themselves in a manner befitting students of a professional institution. This, she believes, will help them build not only their academic knowledge but also the character and professional values required of competent nurses.
Other lecturers who spoke during the congress also admonished students to shun laziness and develop positive attitudes towards their academic work. They encouraged students to be disciplined, punctual, and committed to their studies, stressing that academic success requires dedication, consistency, and personal responsibility. The lecturers further advised students to respect the College's rules and regulations and maintain good relationships with their colleagues and members of staff.
The Provost reiterated the College Management's commitment to providing an enabling environment for teaching, learning, and professional development. She called on students to reciprocate these efforts by conducting themselves responsibly. The congress was attended by the Deputy Provost, Mrs. Iyabo Adeleke; the Registrar, Mr. Raji Tirimisiyu; the Bursar and Librarian, Mr. Iseoluwa Adedokun and Mrs. Grace Adewusi; and the Director of Works, Engr. Adebowale Olawoyin, among others.
The Students' Union President, Mr. Iyiola Olamilekan, appreciated the Provost and College Management for their guidance, support, and commitment to student welfare and development. He assured the Management that students had taken the admonitions in good faith and would work towards complying with College rules and regulations. Mr. Olamilekan pledged students' cooperation with the Management, vowing to uphold the institution's dignity and reputation while pursuing their academic and professional goals.
