The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ibadan North-East State Constituency 2 in the 2027 general elections, Hammed Ademola, and an Accord aspirant for the same constituency, Adedapo Ojo, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State. Ademola, popularly known as Lucky, cited his assessment of the political situation in the state ahead of the 2027 elections as the reason for his decision. He expressed confidence that the APC ticket would be more viable in the upcoming elections.

Ademola, along with over 3,000 supporters, was received by the Oyo State Chairman of the APC, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo. Ademola stated that he did his due diligence and realised that any ticket outside the APC was unlikely to be successful in 2027. He promised to work in the interest of the progressive party and Nigeria. The defectors were assured of equal opportunities within the party by Alake-Adeyemo.

Adedapo Ojo, who was seeking the Accord ticket in the same constituency, also announced his decision to join the APC. He described his previous efforts with Accord as unproductive and stated that the party was not a credible alternative in the state. Ojo expressed that they wasted time, energy, and resources on an unproductive exercise and decided to pitch their tent with the APC.

The APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, welcomed the new members and promised that his administration would be inclusive if elected in 2027. He expressed joy that reasonable individuals were abandoning their parties to join the APC and stated that the party's hope was getting brighter every day.

The event was attended by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Adesoji Adedeji, the party's Oyo South Senatorial candidate, Aderemi Oseni, and other party leaders. Alli urged the new members to work towards strengthening the party and securing victory in the 2027 general elections.

The defections are seen as a boost to the APC in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections. The party is working to secure victory in the state, which has been a stronghold of other parties in the past. The APC is confident that with the new members, it will be able to present a strong challenge to other parties.

The development is also significant given the comments from other politicians in the country. Some have expressed concerns about the state of politics in Nigeria, while others have made statements about their own party affiliations. The 2027 elections are expected to be closely contested, with various parties vying for power.
