The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has called on Oyo State politicians to shift their focus from personal attacks to issue-based campaigns as the 2027 general elections approach. In a statement released by Publicity Secretary Mr Kola Olomide, the council emphasised the need for politicians to centre their campaigns around policies and plans that address the challenges faced by the people of Oyo and Nigeria. This approach aims to promote a more positive and constructive political environment.
CCII President-General Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole stressed that politicians should make their campaigns issue-based, avoiding name-calling and personal attacks. He believes that politics should be about telling the people what a candidate intends to do for them if elected, rather than abusing or pulling down opponents. Ajewole's statement reflects the council's desire to see a more dignified and policy-focused campaign.
The council has urged candidates to clearly outline their programmes, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, employment, and economic growth.
