The Ekiti State Government has announced that Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji's second term will usher in a new phase of accelerated development, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and economic growth. This assurance was given by the Governor's Second Term Inauguration Planning Committee as it unveiled the programme of activities for the October 16 inauguration. The committee presented the administration's scorecard after four years in office, highlighting achievements and future plans.
The inauguration planning committee, chaired by Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo, revealed that the theme 'The Good Work Continues' reflects the administration's determination to consolidate its achievements and introduce new interventions to improve residents' welfare and deepen economic prosperity. The committee outlined various events leading up to the swearing-in ceremony on October 16, including a Jumat thanksgiving service at the Central Mosque, Ado-Ekiti, on October 2.
According to Adebayo, significant achievements since the administration assumed office in October 2022 include the completion and commencement of commercial operations at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in late 2025. This development has opened new opportunities for investment, tourism, trade, commerce, and agricultural exports. The government has also completed and commissioned over 500 kilometres of inter-city and rural roads, with several others at various stages of completion.
The administration has made notable progress in the power sector, restoring electricity to communities in Aiyekire and Ekiti East Local Government Areas, as well as the Ikogosi tourism corridor, ending years of darkness in these areas. In the health sector, over 110 primary healthcare centres and all general hospitals in the state have been renovated and equipped with modern facilities. This effort aims to improve healthcare services for residents.
Adebayo highlighted the administration's investments in education, including the renovation of 203 secondary schools, three special schools, and 950 primary schools across the state. Nine ICT laboratories were established in selected secondary schools and technical colleges, while new primary schools were built under the Suburb Model School Project. Additionally, the government paid N2.158 billion in WAEC examination fees for 69,000 students and provided free JAMB forms for 12,400 candidates.
The administration has also implemented initiatives to support agriculture and enterprise development. Over 5,000 youths have been engaged through the Bring Back the Youth into Agriculture initiative, generating over N1 billion in profits within 18 months. The government disbursed N1.1 billion in credit and operational grants to 2,777 beneficiaries, N400 million in loans to 443 micro, small and medium enterprises, and N450 million in grants to 10 agro-processing cooperatives.
Adebayo attributed the administration's success to its fiscal management, praising the government's prudent handling of resources. The second term is expected to build on these achievements, with a focus on sustaining and deepening the gains made in various sectors. The inauguration ceremony on October 16 will mark a new chapter in the administration's efforts to drive growth and development in Ekiti State.
