In 2019, a total of 51,717 young job seekers, including 33,380 men, registered with the Agence de Wilaya de l'Emploi (AWEM) in Béjaïa, Algeria. AWEM operates seven local employment agencies across the wilaya of Béjaïa, providing a vital link between job seekers and employers. The large number of registrations highlights the significant demand for employment opportunities in the region.
The number of job seekers far exceeds the number of job offers available, with only 20,207 offers posted by employers through AWEM in 2019. The majority of these offers, 17,895, were in the private national sector, followed by 1,630 in the public sector and 682 in the private foreign sector. These offers were distributed across various sectors, including industry, services, construction, and agriculture.
The industry sector offered the most job opportunities, with 6,923 posts available, closely followed by the services sector with 6,919 offers. The construction and public works sector had a significant demand for labor, with 5,745 job openings. In contrast, the agriculture sector had relatively few job offers, with only 620 available.
In terms of the qualifications of job seekers, AWEM reported that 15,635 had a title of cadre or senior cadre, 19,455 were classified as qualified personnel, and 3,584 were senior technicians. A further 997 were highly qualified personnel, 444 were auxiliary personnel, and 11,622 had no qualification. This highlights the diverse range of skills and experience among job seekers in the region.
AWEM successfully placed 16,851 job seekers in employment through the classic system in 2019. Of these, 16,392 had a fixed-term contract, while 459 had an indefinite contract. The majority of placements, 15,335, were in the private national sector, with 1,108 in the public sector and 408 in the private foreign sector.
The services sector had the most placements, with 5,855 job seekers employed, followed by the industry sector with 5,764 placements. The construction sector also had a significant number of placements, with 4,771 job seekers employed. In addition to these classic placements, AWEM also facilitated the insertion of 232 job seekers through other programs.
AWEM also provided support to job seekers through training and accompaniment programs. In 2019, the organization provided training on job search techniques, CV writing, and interview preparation to several dozen people. These initiatives aim to enhance the employability of job seekers and improve their chances of securing employment.
