The Osun Amotekun Corps has successfully reunited a woman and her two young children, aged approximately three years and one year, with their family. The woman and children were found wandering along the Gbongan-Ibadan road in Ogii town, Osogbo. According to the Osun Amotekun spokesperson, CSA, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the rescue occurred during a night patrol on Thursday.
After being rescued, the woman and children were taken to the Osun Amotekun Corps headquarters in Osogbo, where they received care while officers worked to establish their identity and locate their relatives. The woman initially declined to speak and communicated using unclear words, prompting her referral to the Amotekun desk of the Gender, Family and People with Disabilities Unit for further investigation.
Personnel from the family-focused units obtained fragments of useful information from the woman, which assisted in tracing her family to Ede. The woman's husband, Olawale Muideen, was out of town during the reunion and was represented by his younger brother, Mutiu Sodiq, and his first son, Muideen Aliyullah, who identified the woman.
During the reunion, Sodiq expressed appreciation to the Osun Amotekun Corps for rescuing the woman and her children and ensuring their safe return. He praised the operatives for obtaining useful information despite the woman's condition and commended the Corps for the humane treatment and care given to the woman and her children.
Corps Commander Adekunle Isaac Omoyele commended the operatives who rescued the woman and her children during the late-night patrol, emphasizing that protecting lives and property is a core mandate of the Osun Amotekun Corps. He stressed the importance of protecting vulnerable persons, particularly young children, and urged families to promptly report missing relatives to law enforcement authorities.
Field Commander Dr Olusoji Benedict Akanni described the identification and location of the woman's family within 24 hours as a significant outcome of the command's coordinated efforts. The Osun Amotekun Corps has since handed over the woman and her two children to their family after completing its investigation.
The successful reunion was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Osun Amotekun operatives, members of the public, and the media, who supported the dissemination of information about the rescued woman. The Corps continues to prioritize the protection of lives and property in the state.
