Lion Phina Origho, Pioneer District Governor of District 404B5 Nigeria, has urged the newly installed President of Ikeja Dynamic Model Lions Club, Lion Temitayo Osunremi, to lead with integrity, humility, courage, and inclusiveness. Origho gave the charge at the investiture ceremony of Osunremi as the 11th President of the club. She emphasized that leadership in Lions was not about performance alone, but about influence, example, vision, and responsibility.
Origho stressed the need to identify emerging leaders, provide members with opportunities to serve, and build leadership pipelines that would ensure the continued growth and strength of the club. She also called on the new president to ensure that service projects addressed genuine community needs and created sustainable solutions, rather than focusing solely on the number of activities undertaken.
According to Origho, a great leader does not only achieve results, but also develops people. She urged Osunremi to ask himself, "what difference are we making? Whose life has been transformed? What lasting change are we creating?" Origho also encouraged the club to embrace Mission 1.5, the drive to reach 1.5 million Lions worldwide by July 1, 2027, through membership growth, encouragement, engagement, and retention.
In his acceptance speech, Osunremi pledged to lead Ikeja Dynamic Model Lions Club with integrity, humility, transparency, and responsiveness. He promised to pursue behavioral, sustainable, and empowering service throughout his tenure, focusing on initiatives spanning advocacy and education, support for children with disabilities, youth development, health, and well-being, and reaching vulnerable communities.
The proposed programmes, according to Osunremi, would seek to develop skills and talents among young people, promote health awareness, and implement projects that would leave a lasting legacy. He said that the collective strength of members would enable the club to achieve more meaningful and impactful projects. Osunremi also promised to listen to members, care for them, and ensure that every member recognized the value of their contribution to the club's work.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Makinde, described Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club as an award-winning club that had sustained humanitarian service activities within its communities since its charter approximately 11 years ago. Makinde disclosed that the club had a N50 million budget for humanitarian service projects and appealed to stakeholders to support its fundraising efforts. The club's previous achievements, under the leadership of Lion Adeniran Somefun, included food security programmes supporting over 500 households, diabetes screening, environmental advocacy, and the renovation of a six-classroom block at Karaole Primary School, Ifako-Ijaiye.
