Bosun Arebuwa, a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Arebuwa, who previously contested for the PDP governorship ticket ahead of the 2024 Ondo State gubernatorial election, led a massive crowd of defectors to the APC on Friday. The grand defection ceremony took place at the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure, the state capital.
Arebuwa stated that he and his extensive political network decided to dump the opposition party because they were highly impressed by the performance and leadership style of President Bola Tinubu. He explained that the defecting group comprises loyal supporters from more than 3,000 political units and all 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
The former PDP chieftain emphasized his readiness to actively work for the APC to ensure a sweeping victory for President Tinubu and all other party candidates in the upcoming 2027 general elections. “My first line of action is to deploy my experience and my capacity to ensure President Bola Tinubu wins the presidential election come January 2027, and we are well prepared because that is our cardinal objective of coming to the APC,” he added.
Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, formally received the defectors on behalf of the APC leadership in Ondo State. He enthusiastically urged the new members to immediately return to their respective wards and local government areas to begin grassroots mobilization for the party. Oke specifically praised Arebuwa, describing him as an influential political heavyweight whose entrance would significantly strengthen the APC’s structure and activities throughout the state.
Oke assured the crowd that they would never regret joining the APC, and implored them to work for the party at their various wards and local governments. The defection is seen as a boost for the APC in Ondo State, with Arebuwa's influence expected to bring in more supporters and votes for the party.
