Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council to engage directly with the people at the grassroots and ensure that the party’s campaign reached every community in the state. He made this call during the inauguration of the Edo APC Campaign Council for the 2027 General elections, which he chairs. The governor emphasized the importance of working together as a team and promoting peaceful campaigns.
According to Governor Okpebholo, the campaign should not be restricted to party leaders and political office holders, but should involve youths, women, traditional institutions, traders, and other relevant stakeholders. He urged the council members to explain the programmes and achievements of the APC-led administration to the people and listen to their concerns. Effective grassroots mobilisation, he said, remained critical to the party’s success in the forthcoming elections.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Co-chairman of the campaign council and Senator representing Edo North, commended Governor Okpebholo for his grassroots approach to governance. He noted that the governor’s ongoing visits to local government areas demonstrated the importance of taking leadership directly to the people. Oshiomhole urged members of the campaign council to reach out beyond existing APC members and engage other residents who might be willing to support the party.
Mr Jarrett Tenebe, Edo State APC Chairman and Co-chairman of the campaign council, expressed confidence that the council has experienced party members carefully selected to deliver the party’s candidates in the various elections. He urged members of the council to work collectively and ensure that campaign activities reached the wards and units across the state. The party, he said, would provide the necessary support to enable the council to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
Director-General of the Campaign Council and former Senator representing Edo South, Sen. Matthew Urhoghide, emphasized the need for the campaign to be taken to the “nooks and crannies” of Edo. He urged members to engage residents who were not members of the APC and explain the reasons why they should support the party. The election, he said, would be fought at the polling-unit level, stressing the need for every member of the campaign council to pay attention to the grassroots.
The APC recently constituted its 2026/2027 campaign structure, with Okpebholo as Chairman of the Campaign Council, Oshiomhole and Tenebe as Co-Chairmen, and Urhoghide as Director-General. Several notable figures were present at the inauguration ceremony, including the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Dannis Idahosa, Speaker Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) Mr Yekini Idiaye, and Former Deputy governor of Edo State Lucky Imaseun.
