The Obidient/Kwankwasiya (OK) Movement has challenged Senator Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), over control of its political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. Formed around supporters of Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the OK Movement has emerged as a grassroots political organisation within the NDC.
The movement insists its Presidential Campaign Council remains intact despite opposition from NDC leadership sections. Senator Dickson clarified that the party's recognition of political support groups does not extend to allowing them to operate as parallel structures to the party. He explained that support groups have a role in grassroots mobilisation but cannot assume party or official campaign organisation functions.
The OK Movement, in a statement signed by its National Director General, Hon. John Ozyl Ughulu, declared its structure does not require Dickson or any NDC leader's approval. The movement is an independent political organisation with its own leadership, principles, and organisational structure. Its independence predates the announcement of its Presidential Campaign Council.
The group argued that the NDC can establish and manage its own campaign structures but cannot determine the internal structure of an independent organisation. The OK Movement rejected any suggestion that it was trying to establish superiority over the NDC, saying the party and the movement are separate entities with different organisational structures.
The OK Movement maintained that its grassroots mobilisation structure was not created through financial support from NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, or the party. Every candidate contesting on the NDC platform can benefit from its grassroots mobilisation, it said, adding that no candidate should consider themselves superior due to political office or proximity to party leadership.
The OK Movement warned against attempts to undermine, appropriate, dissolve or interfere with its leadership and organisational structure, saying such attempts would be resisted. The dispute is not about confrontation but about institutional respect and organisational independence, it said. The movement remains open to working with the NDC, provided its principles and organisational identity are respected.
The OK Movement ended its statement with a firm declaration that its Presidential Campaign Council remains as announced, while its principles and mission remain unchanged. The group will not abandon its structure to satisfy individual or group preferences.
