A group of Ogun State indigenes residing in Enugu State recently hosted Hajia Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, at a brief reception. The gathering was an opportunity for the group to reiterate their support for change in Ogun State and express their commitment to voting out the APC in the 2027 general elections. The reception took place on the sidelines of the 22nd All Nigeria Editors Conference in Enugu.
According to Dr. Lekan Oladapo, Chairman of the group, they have studied the manifesto of the PDP governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, and are convinced that Adebutu and Sowunmi-Kolapo are genuinely committed to the progress of Ogun State and the wellbeing of its people. Oladapo noted that Ogun State is not living up to its potential, citing underdevelopment across various sectors, including infrastructure. He emphasized the need for a change in leadership to protect the state's heritage and install good governance.
Oladapo highlighted the state's untapped potential for revenue generation through tourism, citing ancient towns like Ijebu Ode and Abeokuta. He also mentioned the possibility of earning foreign currency from the export of herbal products. The group believes that a PDP government would have the goodwill and capacity to implement policies that would support producers in exporting herbal products globally. This, they argue, would be a significant step towards developing the state's economy.
The group has vowed to mobilize heavily and sensitize their communities to vote for the PDP in the 2027 elections. They claim that many of their people have transferred their voter cards or registered afresh in Ogun State, ensuring that their voices are heard in the electoral process. Oladapo assured Sowunmi-Kolapo that the 2027 votes for the PDP would be without sentiments, emphasizing that the people are eager for a change that would move the state forward.
Oladapo praised Sowunmi-Kolapo's antecedents and integrity, describing her as the most suitable running mate for Adebutu. He commended the PDP for bringing her on board, citing her value addition to the ticket. The group is convinced that the PDP will win the governorship election, not just for the governorship but also for other positions.
Responding to the group's show of support, Sowunmi-Kolapo expressed her gratitude and assured them that all pledges and promises made during the campaigns would be fulfilled. She highlighted the Adebutu family's love for the people of Ogun State and their empowerment efforts, even outside of government. Sowunmi-Kolapo expressed confidence that under a PDP government, Ogun State would develop beyond expectations.
Sowunmi-Kolapo urged the group not to relent in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the need for their continued support. She encouraged them to tell others to come out and vote without fear of intimidation. The deputy governorship candidate assured them that she would take their message back to Hon. Ladi Adebutu, her principal.
