Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has taken steps to reconcile aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who lost in the party's recent primaries. He assured them that there would be room for all within the party. This move is critical to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general election. Abiodun emphasized that those who contested and lost the primaries remained important members of the APC.
Governor Abiodun directed the establishment of a reconciliation committee to address the concerns of aggrieved members and give them a sense of belonging. The committee will be headed by Chief Olu Okuboyejo, with former Deputy Governor Yetunde Onanuga and state commissioners serving as members. Similar reconciliation committees will be established at the ward and local government levels to ensure no aggrieved member is left out.
The governor's reconciliation effort aims to accommodate everyone committed to the party. He urged party leaders to bring back aggrieved members and expand the APC's membership base by welcoming new members from opposition parties. Abiodun noted that elections are about numbers and that the party's victory is certain with the return of aggrieved members.
During a meeting with APC leaders and stakeholders in Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Abiodun urged party members to concentrate on issue-based campaigns. He highlighted the APC's record of performance at both state and federal levels. The governor mentioned that his administration had grown Ogun State's economy to about N17 trillion and increased internally generated revenue to N250 billion.
Governor Abiodun described the meeting as the formal commencement of his political activities ahead of the 2027 general election. He appreciated the people of Ijebu-Ode for their support for the APC in the 2019 and 2023 elections. Abiodun assured the people that his administration would continue to improve infrastructure and deliver more dividends of democracy to the area.
The Director-General of the Campaign Committee, Senator Lekan Mustapha, emphasized the significance of Ijebu-Ode, being the headquarters of Ogun East Senatorial District, in mobilizing voters for the party. He noted that the local government has 161 polling units and stressed the need for effective mobilization across all units.
Governor Abiodun later held similar meetings with APC leaders and executives in Ijebu-North East and Odogbolu local government areas to strengthen the party's structure ahead of the 2027 elections. The governor's efforts aim to ensure a united party and maximize its chances in the upcoming elections.
