Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, has unveiled a comprehensive nine-point development agenda. Dubbed 'Itesiwaju,' the plan aims to drive growth, address infrastructure challenges, and improve the lives of residents. Adeola presented the blueprint to the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta, as part of his engagement with stakeholders ahead of the 2027 election.
The nine-point agenda focuses on key areas, including infrastructure, tourism and culture, education and human capital development, security and law enforcement, and inclusive health and well-being. Other pillars include women affairs, poverty alleviation, education and youth development, agricultural transformation and food security, job creation and industrialisation, and urban environment and physical development. Adeola's plan is designed to tackle the state's challenges and drive sustainable development.
Adeola revealed that his agenda was developed over two years, through a consultative process. He described it as an economic and governance plan, tailored to address Ogun State's specific needs. The APC candidate emphasized that his administration would prioritize institutional reforms, including fiscal discipline, revenue mobilisation, and legislative reform, to ensure effective governance.
One of the key components of Adeola's plan is the establishment of an Ogun State Bus Mass Transit Programme. This initiative will cover major routes, including Abeokuta, Ota, Sagamu, and Ijebu, with organised terminals and inter-city connectivity. Additionally, Adeola aims to collaborate with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to introduce commuter rail services linking Abeokuta with Lagos and connecting the state's industrial corridor to the Lagos rail network.
Adeola also announced plans to launch an "Ogun Ride" mobility platform, which will provide operators with access to health insurance, vehicle financing, and cooperatives. The platform will cater to cars, tricycles, and motorcycles. Furthermore, his administration will focus on providing affordable housing and establishing new town development areas across the state, particularly around border communities and fast-growing corridors.
The proposed new town development areas aim to reduce pressure on existing urban centres while providing planned residential communities with infrastructure and services. Adeola envisions creating modern, thriving communities, similar to those found in Lagos. He expressed his desire to make Ogun State an attractive place to live and work, reducing the need for residents to commute to other states.
On employment, Adeola's plan involves establishing stronger partnerships with industries operating in Ogun State. This will ensure that qualified indigenes benefit from employment opportunities created by businesses in the state. His administration will also pay greater attention to the mining sector, exploring opportunities for growth and development. With these initiatives, Adeola aims to drive economic growth, improve living standards, and enhance the overall quality of life for Ogun State residents.
