The Obi-Kwankwaso National Women Support Group has initiated a nationwide mobilisation effort in preparation for the 2027 general elections. The group, which is backing Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), announced the establishment of state structures to coordinate its activities across Nigeria. This move aims to increase women's participation in political and community activities.

According to the group, its campaign officially commenced on October 1 following the inauguration of its national leadership. The mobilisation drive will focus on women leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, young women, and community organisers as it begins grassroots engagement across the country. This approach is designed to build a strong support base for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

The Convener and National Coordinator of the group, Hon. Anwuli Ogbechi, stated that the organisation has brought together women from different regions and backgrounds. The group's objective is to increase women's participation in political and community activities. Ogbechi highlighted that the group will use its structures across the states to organise town hall meetings, community forums, and other grassroots engagements as part of its campaign activities.

The group's programme extends beyond electoral mobilisation to include leadership mentoring and political education for young women, professional engagement with entrepreneurs and women in the diaspora, as well as community-based initiatives. Additionally, the group has listed medical and educational outreach programmes among its planned activities. These initiatives aim to promote the well-being and empowerment of women and underserved communities.

The group also identified inclusion programmes for persons with disabilities and other underserved communities as part of its areas of intervention. Its national leadership includes Mairo Musa Abubakar as Vice Coordinator, North; Pastor Basiratu Musa Ibijoke as Deputy Coordinator, South; Lolo Victoria Mgbor Odogwu as General Secretary; Tina Ohwo as Organising Secretary; and Hajia Fadimatu Atiku Danrimi as Treasurer. Other officials were also appointed to key positions.

The group's next phase involves expanding its grassroots network and coordinating activities across the states as it seeks to build support for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election. This nationwide mobilisation effort is expected to play a crucial role in promoting the ticket and increasing women's participation in the electoral process.

The Obi-Kwankwaso National Women Support Group's efforts to mobilise women and promote the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket are seen as a significant development in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. The group's activities are expected to have a lasting impact on the country's political landscape.
