The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has encouraged corps members to participate in its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to gain practical skills and become self-reliant. This initiative aims to address the rising unemployment in Nigeria. The NYSC Kaduna state coordinator, Mr. Abubakar Bawa, made this appeal during the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ā€˜C’ Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC temporary orientation camp, Government College, Kaduna.

Mr. Abubakar Bawa stressed that academic qualifications alone may not be sufficient for corps members to navigate the current economy. He urged them to engage fully in the SAED programme, which is designed to equip them with relevant skills for self-reliance. Bawa also encouraged active participation in camp activities and punctuality, highlighting the regimented nature of the orientation programme as a preparation for future challenges.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State also addressed the corps members, urging them to view their deployment as an opportunity to learn, serve, grow, and contribute to national development. He emphasized the importance of the National Youth Service Corps in promoting national integration by bringing together young Nigerians from different backgrounds.

Governor Sani encouraged the corps members to take the SAED programme seriously, citing the need for young people to possess practical skills, creativity, and an entrepreneurial mindset in addition to academic qualifications. He advised them to use this opportunity to acquire skills that can empower them to become self-reliant and create employment.

The SAED programme offers corps members a chance to acquire skills in various areas, enabling them to become entrepreneurs and job creators. This initiative aligns with the NYSC's goal of fostering self-reliance and addressing unemployment among young Nigerians. By participating in the programme, corps members can gain a competitive edge in the job market.

The NYSC orientation programme is designed to prepare corps members for the challenges of serving in different parts of the country. The programme includes various activities, such as skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development, and community service. Corps members are expected to participate actively and remain punctual throughout the programme.

The NYSC has continued to emphasize the importance of skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development in addressing unemployment. By encouraging corps members to participate in the SAED programme, the organization aims to empower them to become self-reliant and contribute to the growth of the economy.
