Nvidia's Vice President for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Paolo Guglielmini, has emphasized that the current technological revolution is one of the most significant transformations in human history. Speaking at the NVIDIA AI Ecosystem Reception in Cairo, Guglielmini highlighted Egypt's potential to leverage its large pool of engineers and talent, with nearly 40,000 graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields annually.
Guglielmini noted that Egypt is home to over 200 startups participating in Nvidia's global Inception program, as well as a vast community of developers that includes more than 46,000 individuals. He stressed that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) relies not only on investments or the availability of graphics processing units (GPUs) but also on the presence of skilled developers and cadres capable of understanding problems and utilizing suitable tools to transform them into practical solutions.
According to Guglielmini, the customization of AI models, linking them to specific contexts, data, and operational problems, presents a significant commercial opportunity for Egyptian developers and software companies. He outlined six parallel components required to build a sustainable and scalable AI-driven economy: talent, energy, infrastructure, chips, models, and applications.
The NVIDIA AI Ecosystem Reception featured live demonstrations of AI applications developed by leading Egyptian startups, including AvidBeam, Proteinea, CyberFuse, and Marses Robotics. These companies showcased innovative solutions to address vital gaps in the market, such as video analysis, protein development, cybersecurity, and advanced robotics.
Guglielmini invited the Egyptian technology community to participate in the upcoming GTC Berlin conference, scheduled for October 20-22, to facilitate connections with global investors and companies. Ahmed Zaher, CEO of the Egyptian Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), emphasized Egypt's strength lies in its vibrant human capital and startups that have successfully developed innovative applications despite limited access to high-performance computing resources.
ITIDA is set to collaborate with Nvidia as a strategic partner to support the growth of Egypt's AI ecosystem. Zaher highlighted the potential for Egypt to lead in AI-driven business models and expressed readiness to work together to expand the use of local competencies and applications.
The collaboration between Nvidia and Egyptian companies aims to foster innovation, develop national applications, and bridge the gap in various sectors. With a strong foundation in place, Egypt is poised to capitalize on the opportunities presented by AI and become a hub for technological advancement in the region.
