The Bank Windhoek Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) Cup has reached its decisive stage, with eight teams set to compete at the Dome in Swakopmund. The 18th edition of the tournament began with teams competing in Otjiwarongo, with the top four teams in both men's and women's divisions advancing to the semi-finals. This weekend's matches will determine the champions and the teams that will earn a spot in the 2027 MTC Volleyball National League.

According to NVF chief executive Festus Hamukwaya, the final round is expected to be highly competitive, with promotion to the National League adding significance to the matches. The semi-finals will feature DTS against Coastal Warriors and Shining Stars against NCS in the women's division, while Mighty Gunners will face Erongo NamPol and Unam Kings will meet Quiver in the men's division. The winners of the semi-finals will advance to the gold medal matches.

Hamukwaya emphasized that promotion to the MTC Volleyball National League provides clubs and players with a crucial pathway to the highest level of domestic volleyball. He noted that participating in the National League gives athletes a significant boost, allowing them to compete at the highest standard in the country. This, in turn, enhances their skills and experience.

The NVF also used the Otjiwarongo round to identify emerging talent, with Hamukwaya stating that the federation aims to strengthen structures across regions and ensure that talented players are identified and developed. This focus on talent identification and development is a key aspect of the NVF's strategy to improve volleyball in Namibia.

In addition to the on-court action, the NVF recently held a five-day management and administrative training programme, which brought together 31 participants from seven regions. The training covered essential topics such as good governance, financial management, marketing, and resource mobilization, as part of the NVF's capacity-building strategy. This initiative aims to enhance the administrative capabilities of volleyball officials across the country.

The NVF Cup semi-finals and finals will take place this weekend, starting at 08h00 on Saturday, with free entrance for supporters. The semi-final winners will advance to the gold medal matches, while the losing teams will contest the bronze medal matches. The matches are expected to be intense, with teams vying for the top spots and the coveted promotion to the National League.

The decisive stage of the NVF Cup promises to be an exciting and closely contested event, with teams battling for the top prizes and the chance to compete in the 2027 MTC Volleyball National League. The NVF's efforts to promote volleyball and identify emerging talent are evident in the tournament's organization and the opportunities it provides for players and clubs.
