The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested Nweke Friday Wisdom for allegedly vandalizing and stealing a mast power installation belonging to a telecommunications service provider. The 24-year-old suspect, from Izzi South LGA of Ebonyi State, was arrested around 07:20 hours on Friday at Esther Obiakor Estate, Agu-Awka, following a distress call.
State Commandant Maku Olatunde disclosed this on Friday at the NSCDC State Headquarters, Awka. He said the suspect was apprehended with items believed to have been removed from the mast installation, including DC Cable/Armored Cable. The commandant revealed that a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly specializes in vandalizing telecommunications masts and stealing valuable equipment from them.
According to Maku, the suspect has made useful confessions and will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is concluded. The Commandant reiterated the NSCDC’s resolve to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, warning vandals to desist or face the full wrath of the law. He urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial to protecting critical national assets and improving security across the state.
The arrested suspect, Nweke Friday Wisdom, is currently in the custody of the NSCDC, and the corps is working to uncover the extent of his involvement in the vandalism of telecommunications masts in the state.
