The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspected vandal and recovered stolen power infrastructure in Danbatta town, Kano State. According to Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC Kano State Command, the suspect, 20-year-old Jamilu Inusa, was intercepted by a patrol team on October 2, 2026, at approximately 4:15 AM. The operation was executed following a tip-off from local sources.

The NSCDC operatives apprehended Inusa in possession of a white Volkswagen Golf Wagon with registration number KMC 656 ZJ. A subsequent search led operatives to a compound in Danbatta where the stolen infrastructure had been hidden. Authorities found four bags filled with aluminium electricity conductor cables, which had been concealed in the compound. The vehicle was used to convey the vandalised items, according to Abdullahi.

Security experts confirmed that the seized materials consisted of bare-stranded aluminium wires (ACSR/AAC type), vital components used for overhead 33KV, 11KV, and low-voltage power distribution lines. The NSCDC strongly condemned the act, emphasizing that destruction of critical national infrastructure severely paralyses regional socio-economic growth and compromises public safety.

The suspect, Inusa, is from Kauyen Mudu village and was taken into custody following the successful bust. The command revealed that two other prime suspects managed to flee the scene and are currently evasion targets. Security forces are actively trailing the fleeing accomplices.

The Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama, praised the patrol team’s dedication, commending their vigilance and professionalism. He urged community members to remain partners in security, adding that credible information from the public will assist security agencies in preventing vandalism and protecting critical national assets.

The NSCDC assured that Inusa will face legal prosecution as soon as investigations are concluded. The command emphasized the importance of community involvement in securing the nation, encouraging members of the public to provide information that can help prevent vandalism.

The recovery of the stolen infrastructure and arrest of the suspect mark a significant success for the NSCDC in the fight against vandalism. The incident highlights the need for continued collaboration between security agencies and the public to protect critical national assets and ensure public safety.
