The National Sports Commission (NSC) of Nigeria has announced a reshuffling of the General Secretaries of some national sports federations. This move is part of efforts to strengthen their administration and improve operations. The Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, made the announcement during a meeting with General Secretaries of the national sports federations in Abuja. The changes aim to deploy administrative personnel more strategically.

Mr. Olopade commended the secretaries for their professionalism, commitment, and sacrifices toward the development of Nigerian sports. He also appreciated their support for the commission since the appointment of the current leadership led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and himself as Director General. The reshuffling is intended to strengthen the administration and operations of the affected federations in line with the government’s sports development agenda.

According to Mr. Olopade, the reshuffling does not imply any secretary is being sacked. Instead, they are being posted to another federation for a new assignment. The Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Mr. Olopade believe in the professional expertise of all the secretaries. The secretaries play a critical role in fulfilling the NSC's mandate to regulate and develop sports in Nigeria.

Under the new arrangement, several secretaries have been reassigned. Bunmi Oluode becomes the Secretary General of the Athletics Federation, replacing Israel Inwang, who has been posted to the Padel Federation. Rita Mosindi has been appointed Acting Secretary General of the Basketball Federation. Amina Amanchi, the former Secretary General, has been posted to the Rowing Federation.

Additional appointments include Tosin Samuel as the new Secretary General of the Shooting Federation and Tinuoso Dolapo as Secretary General of the Karate Federation. Javan Bennard has been assigned as Secretary General of the Fencing Federation, while Dorothy Okpo becomes Secretary General of the Arm Wrestling Federation. These changes were announced on 8 October 2024.

The NSC stated that the reshuffling aims to strategically deploy its administrative personnel and strengthen the effectiveness of the national sports federations. This move is expected to enhance the performance and operations of the federations. The commission is committed to developing sports in Nigeria in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's mandate.

The changes reflect the NSC's efforts to optimize its human resources and improve the governance of sports federations in Nigeria. The commission's leadership, under Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade, continues to implement measures to promote professionalism and efficiency in the administration of national sports federations.
