The New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Ghana has cautioned prospective parliamentary aspirants against premature campaigning, which could jeopardize their eligibility to contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries. According to a statement released on October 11, 2026, by the party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, some aspirants had begun campaigning in various constituencies before the official selection process.

The NPP has directed all prospective aspirants, their agents, and supporters to immediately cease campaign activities, including mounting posters, billboards, and banners, organizing rallies and constituency tours, and distributing items or other inducements to delegates and party members. Additionally, the directive prohibits paid media and social media advertisements promoting prospective candidates.

Party officers at various levels, including polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional, and national levels, as well as members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), have also been warned against promoting aspirants online or facilitating premature campaigns. The party emphasized that such activities violate its regulations, create an uneven playing field, and undermine the unity and discipline required for its success.

The NPP warned that anyone who defies the directive will face disciplinary action under the party's regulations and Code of Conduct, potentially affecting their eligibility to contest in the primaries. The party assured that it will announce the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary selection process in due course.

Constituency and regional executives have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with the directive. The NPP's move aims to maintain party unity and ensure a fair and transparent selection process for parliamentary candidates.

The warning comes as the NPP prepares for its parliamentary primaries, a crucial step in selecting candidates for the next general elections. The party has urged all stakeholders to adhere to its regulations and guidelines to guarantee a smooth and successful process.
