Newly elected Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has stated that the party will combine strategy with vigilance to protect its votes in the 2028 general election. He made these comments on The Pulse on JoyNews, emphasizing that the NPP will not allow a repeat of alleged irregularities that occurred during the 2024 election. Aboagye accused members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of disrupting the handling and collation of ballot papers and other election materials at some centres.

Aboagye called on the NDC to allow the Electoral Commission and the police to perform their respective duties without interference. He urged them to let the Electoral Commission do their work, let the police do their work, and allow the ballots to be cast, counted, and the pink sheet to be filled. The NPP's position, according to Aboagye, is not intended to undermine the Electoral Commission's work but to ensure that election materials are protected throughout the process.

The NPP will respond if it believes attempts are being made to interfere with the electoral process, Aboagye warned. He stated that the party will combine strategy with what he described as "buga" to protect its votes. Aboagye emphasized that the NPP will not allow any individual or group to interfere with ballot papers or ballot boxes during the 2028 election. He said that protecting the ballot will be a key responsibility of the party's newly elected First Vice Chairman, Kojo Fosu Bamba.

According to Aboagye, the NPP has learnt lessons from the 2024 election and will take steps to prevent what he described as attacks on ballot boxes and election materials. He alleged that NDC supporters attacked or disrupted the electoral process at some locations, including Ablekuma North, Nsawam, and Okaikwei Central. Aboagye claimed that the NDC unleashed vigilantes to go to these areas and destroy ballot boxes.

Aboagye further stated that the NPP's decision to strengthen its ballot protection arrangements was based on concerns about the ability of the police to fully secure election materials. He argued that the party cannot afford to ignore the lessons of the 2024 election, citing videos of NDC vigilantes destroying ballot materials. The NPP will take steps to protect all ballot boxes used in the 2028 election, Aboagye said.

The NPP will deploy people to protect the ballot on election day, Aboagye confirmed. He said that Chairman Bamba is responsible for the department that will oversee ballot protection. Aboagye also referred to an incident in Abuakwa North, where he alleged that NDC supporters blocked an Electoral Commission vehicle transporting ballot boxes after voting and counting had ended.

Aboagye insisted that the NPP will ensure that its votes are not compromised in the 2028 election. He stated that if Chairman Bamba's sole responsibility as vice chairman will be to help protect the NPP's ballot, then that is what he will do. The NPP is taking steps to prevent a repeat of alleged irregularities that occurred during the 2028 election.
