Newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has disclosed that he has been trying to reach out to former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko since the party's national executive elections, but to no avail. The NPP held its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, to elect national executives for a four-year term. John Boadu won the chairmanship with 2,888 votes, defeating Mr Agyarko, who polled 2,408 votes.

The NPP chairman made the disclosure on Accra-based Peace FM's Kokrokoo morning show on Friday, October 9, as he outlined efforts to engage key figures in the party following his election. He stated that he had also contacted former Member of Parliament Lydia Seyram Alhassan, a member of the former Energy Minister's campaign team, as part of efforts to reach him. John Boadu expressed his determination to establish contact with Mr Agyarko.

John Boadu's efforts to reach Boakye Agyarko come after a closely contested election. Former National Chairman Paul Afoko secured 790 votes, while Sammy Crabbe received 41 votes. Another contender, Sammy Crabbe, withdrew from the race on election day and endorsed John Boadu, forming an alliance that preceded Mr Boadu's victory.

The NPP chairman also disclosed that he had engaged Sammy Crabbe after the election and intended to draw on his ideas to strengthen the party. This move is seen as an effort to unify the party and bring on board key figures who contested against him.

John Boadu further said he had spoken with former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko in a friendly manner on election day, expressing happiness that he had remained in the party and contested for the chairmanship again rather than joining the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This interaction suggests that John Boadu is making efforts to build relationships with various stakeholders within the party.

If John Boadu is unable to reach Boakye Agyarko by Sunday, he has stated that he will make further efforts to find him. The NPP chairman's commitment to engaging with his opponents and other party members is seen as a positive step towards party unity.

The development highlights the dynamics within the NPP following the national executive elections. John Boadu's chairmanship bid was successful, but the party is now focused on unification and moving forward. Key points include:
