The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of South Africa has confirmed that it will prosecute African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula on a charge of crimen injuria. This follows Mbalula's accusation against Bergview College Principal Jaco Pieterse of raping a child. According to Kganyago, the NPA was informed by the DPP in Gauteng South that they had made this decision and had communicated it to Afriforum. This move has been welcomed by the Head of Afriforum's private prosecution unit, Gerrie Nel.
Nel stated that the decision to prosecute must send out a strong message that one cannot say or post what they want without consequences. He emphasized that no one is above the law. In addition to Mbalula, EFF Leader Julius Malema will also be prosecuted on the same charge of crimen injuria.
