The Northern Senators Forum, NSF, has strongly condemned the recent coordinated insurgent attacks on communities and military outposts in Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas of Adamawa State. The attacks occurred between September 30 and October 1, 2026, on the eve of Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary. Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar'Adua, Chairman of the NSF, expressed deep shock and sorrow over the news.

The attacks resulted in significant loss of life, including three soldiers of the 232 Battalion in Garaha-Mojili, a forest guard, and innocent civilians. The NSF condoled with families who lost loved ones and extended condolences to the government and people of Adamawa State, particularly the affected communities. Senator Yar'Adua led the condolences on behalf of senators from Northern Nigeria.

The NSF lamented the killings, abductions of women and children, burning of places of worship, destruction of property, and displacement of hundreds of families forced to flee their ancestral homes. The attacks targeted the 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha, which the NSF described as an assault on Adamawa, the North, and Nigeria as a whole.

The Northern Senators Forum stands in solidarity with the people of Adamawa State and pledged not to abandon them to terrorists. The Forum called on the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to urgently reinforce security presence in the Kopre-Sambisa corridor. They urged the adoption of a unified, proactive strategy to flush out criminal enclaves in the area.

The senators also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), North East Development Commission (NEDC), and other humanitarian agencies to provide relief materials, medical assistance, and trauma support to displaced persons. They called on residents of Hong and Gombi, as well as Nigerians, to remain vigilant and support security agencies with actionable information.

The attacks have been described as cowardly, and the NSF is pushing for a stronger security response. The call for a troop surge in the Sambisa corridor is part of a broader effort to address the security challenges in the region. The situation in Adamawa State remains a concern for the Nigerian government and the international community.

The Northern Senators Forum's statement reflects the growing concern over the security situation in Nigeria's North East region. The region has faced significant challenges from insurgent groups, leading to loss of life, displacement, and destruction of property. The government's response to the situation will be crucial in determining the future security landscape of the region.
