The North Central region of Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a coordinated grassroots mobilisation programme in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima's re-election bid in 2027. According to the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the programme was unveiled by North Central stakeholders and the region's Grassroots Mobilisation Network. The mobilisation effort aims to galvanise support for the President across the six states in the region and the Federal Capital Territory.

A grand rally is scheduled to take place on October 10 in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, as part of the mobilisation programme. APC members and supporters from the six states are expected to converge on Lafia to demonstrate their solidarity with the President. Prof. Yilwatda disclosed this while addressing correspondents at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Friday. He stated that the six governors, government appointees, and other critical stakeholders in the region had resolved to mobilise support for Tinubu across the North Central.

The mobilisation programme also includes medical outreaches, advocacy tours, and town hall meetings across the six states and the Federal Capital Territory. The SGF and Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, Senator George Akume, said the network would complement the political mobilisation with grassroots advocacy and community-based initiatives. These initiatives are aimed at consolidating support for the President ahead of the 2027 general election.

The medical outreaches will be conducted across the three senatorial districts of Benue State, covering eye screening and treatment, prescription of spectacles, cataract assessment, and selected surgeries, as well as glaucoma and diabetic eye screening. The network will also embark on grassroots advocacy tours and town hall meetings covering the 19 senatorial districts across the six states and the FCT. These activities are part of the programme developed by the National Coordinator of the network, Sonny Echono, and other stakeholders.

Prof. Yilwatda also announced plans to constitute a reconciliation committee to address grievances within the party and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 election. The committee's formation is aimed at ensuring that the party's members are united and working together to support the President's re-election bid. The stakeholders are expected to reconvene next week to finalise preparations for the Lafia rally and coordinate the wider mobilisation programme.

The North Central region's mobilisation programme is a significant development in the APC's efforts to secure a second term for President Tinubu. The region's support is crucial for the President's re-election bid, and the APC is working to ensure that its members and supporters are mobilised to vote for the President in 2027. The programme's success will depend on the effective implementation of the various activities and initiatives outlined.

The APC National Secretariat has endorsed the programme, and the party's National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda, is optimistic about its success. The mobilisation programme is a demonstration of the APC's commitment to ensuring that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima are re-elected in 2027. The party is working to build on its achievements and ensure that its members and supporters are united behind the President's re-election bid.
