The All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central has set a goal to mobilize massive support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. The zone, comprising six states, targets the highest number of votes for the president from across Nigeria. This resolution was announced by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, at a meeting with North Central APC stakeholders in Abuja.
The meeting, attended by governors, party leaders, government appointees, and critical stakeholders, was held in the office of the Secretary to the government of the federation. Yilwatda stated that the zone would mobilize its members and supporters for a mass rally scheduled for October 10, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State. This rally aims to demonstrate the zone's support for Tinubu and communicate its intention to deliver a large number of votes for the president.
The APC chairman emphasized that the North Central would overwhelmingly support Tinubu as the party's candidate in the 2027 general election. He added that stakeholders also resolved to organize medical outreaches in selected states within the North Central for poor and vulnerable people with health challenges. This initiative is part of the zone's broader mobilization program.
A consultation committee will be established to address grievances within the party. Yilwatda stated that this committee would ensure that where there are grievances, they are resolved, and all votes and support are aggregated for Tinubu towards the 2027 general election. This move aims to promote party unity and strengthen support for the president.
Yilwatda addressed disagreements among party members over candidates for elective positions, urging members to support candidates who emerge on the party's platform. He emphasized that party members should support the party's candidates, not based on personal preferences, but because the party has presented them. This, he believes, is crucial for the party's success.
The development followed a presentation by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilization Network. Akume outlined a three-pronged mobilization program for the zone, which includes the North Central Grand Rally in Lafia, a medical outreach in Benue State, and a grassroots advocacy tour and town hall meetings across the 19 senatorial districts.
The medical outreach program will provide comprehensive eye screening and treatment, refraction and prescription of spectacles, cataract assessment and selected cataract surgical services, glaucoma screening, and diabetic eye screening. The program aims to support vulnerable populations and promote healthcare in the region. The stakeholders are set to meet again to intensify preparations for the Lafia rally and the broader mobilization program.
