The Nissan Tekton, a compact SUV styled after the flagship Patrol, has been launched in South Africa, marking the first market to receive the vehicle. The Tekton is available in five models, priced from R339,999 to R529,999, all equipped with turbo-petrol engines. The launch took place in Pretoria at a three-day Nissan festival, which included an African Media Day, an investor conference, and the South African Dealer of the Year gala.
The Tekton features a distinctive design, with C-shaped LED connecting headlamps, a full-width chrome-accented grille, and SynchroFlow C-shaped connected LED tail lamps. The vehicle is built in Chennai, India, at an export hub supplying 50 markets across the Middle East and Africa. The Tekton is aimed at "young families making their first move up," according to Ramy Mohareb, Head of Brand and Communications, Nissan Africa.
The Tekton offers two engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder with 74 kW and 160 Nm, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, and a 1.3-litre turbo four-cylinder with 260 Nm, driving the front wheels through a dual-clutch transmission. The Tekton's cabin features a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, and an e-shifter with paddle shifters.
The Tekton boasts a spacious boot, with a capacity of 700 litres, expanding to 1,789 litres with the rear seats folded. The vehicle also features a range of safety equipment, including six airbags, stability control, ABS with disc brakes all round, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera. Higher grades add features such as Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control.
The Tekton is available in five models, each with its own unique features and pricing. The 1.0 Visia manual costs R339,999, while the 1.3 Visia DCT is priced at R399,999. The 1.3 Acenta DCT costs R459,999, and the 1.3 Tekna DCT is priced at R499,999. The flagship 1.3 Tekna+ DCT costs R529,999.
All Tekton models come with a 6-year or 150,000 km mechanical warranty with roadside assistance and a 2-year or 60,000 km service plan. The vehicle is available in a range of colours, including two-tone Pearl White, Red, Silver, Blue, and Moonbow (Grey) on the Tekna and Tekna+ models.
The Nissan Tekton joins the Magnite and the recently introduced X-Trail in the Nissan lineup, with the upgraded Navara, a special-edition X-Trail, and the eighth-generation Patrol scheduled for this fiscal year. The Patrol is due in the first quarter of 2027, with a turbocharged petrol V6 producing 317 kW and 700 Nm.
