The National Institute for Sports (NIS) and Bodyline Fitness and Gym are collaborating to host Abuja FitLife '26, a major fitness and sporting event in Abuja. The event, scheduled for November 28, 2026, at the Velodrome, National Stadium, Abuja, aims to promote physical activity, healthy living, and a stronger culture of fitness among residents of the Federal Capital Territory and other sports enthusiasts. The programme, themed "Creating a Fit Culture," is designed to encourage Nigerians to make regular physical activity part of their lifestyle.

Abuja FitLife '26 will feature various activities, including a Half Marathon, 5KM Charity Walk, Abuja Fittest Challenge, Abuja Strongest Challenge, and a Cycling Competition. The organisers have deliberately included a range of activities to cater to different interests and levels of fitness, making the event accessible to a wider audience. The Half Marathon will provide a platform for runners seeking an endurance challenge, while the 5KM Charity Walk will offer a less competitive format for participants.

The partnership between NIS and Bodyline Fitness and Gym was formalised earlier in 2026, with the aim of introducing a new approach to marathon and fitness events in Nigeria. NIS Director-General, Philip Shaibu, said the collaboration would go beyond the conventional format of a race, incorporating cultural, recreational, and social activities to create a broader experience for participants and visitors.

The Managing Director of Bodyline Fitness and Gym, Bankole Opashi, said the partnership aims to reposition fitness as an integral component of sports development in Nigeria. Opashi stressed the importance of creating a stronger role for fitness professionals in Nigeria's sports development framework, arguing that fitness is fundamental to the preparation and performance of athletes.

The inclusion of the 5KM Charity Walk adds a social dimension to the event, allowing participants to combine physical activity with a charitable cause. The walk is expected to provide an avenue for families, corporate organisations, and members of the wider community to participate without necessarily having to compete at a high-performance level.

Registration for Abuja FitLife '26 is scheduled to open on October 1 and close on October 31, 2026. Interested participants are expected to register through the event's official platform. The event will take place at a time when there is growing interest in fitness, recreational sports, and wellness programmes in major Nigerian cities.

The organisers are positioning Abuja FitLife '26 as more than a one-day competition, with the programme designed around the broader idea of creating a sustainable fitness culture. The event could provide opportunities for athletes, fitness instructors, and other stakeholders to interact and promote participation in physical activity.
