A People’s Redemption Party (PRP) presidential aspirant, Engr. (Dr) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley, has urged all opposition candidates vying for the 2027 presidential election to disclose their plans for Nigeria's development. Kingsley, awaiting a Federal High Court judgment on the party's presidential primary election dispute, emphasized that Nigerians deserve to know the implementation plans, required resources, and expected results. He made this statement in a release to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday.
Kingsley noted that the focus of the presidential campaign should be on the future of Nigeria, emphasizing ideas, policies, programs, and practical solutions rather than personal attacks and power struggles. He stressed the importance of issue-based campaigns as political activities intensify. According to Kingsley, removing the incumbent should not be a national development agenda; instead, Nigerians should be given a clear reason to vote for a new approach to governance.
A presidential election, Kingsley said, should provide citizens with an opportunity to examine competing ideas, policies, programs, and implementation plans. Candidates should tell Nigerians not only what they oppose but also what they intend to build and how they plan to deliver it. He reiterated that political differences should not prevent acknowledging developments that deserve recognition, citing the road infrastructure projects, especially the Coastal Highway, undertaken by the present administration.
As a highway engineer, Kingsley assessed the project based on technical dimensions, including project scoping, specifications, earthworks, and engineering requirements. He commended the project, stating that it deserves recognition. However, he noted that many Nigerians still suffer from economic hardship, rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity, and difficulties in meeting basic needs. These realities, he said, must be addressed through proper planning, sequencing, or implementation.
Kingsley explained that the YMK Nigeria Project has developed robust alternative National Policy to address the challenges and is ready to serve Nigeria in 2027. The policy defines national objectives, implementation structures, responsible institutions, resource requirements, timelines, and roles of the Federal, States, and Local Governments. It also addresses monitoring mechanisms and measurable indicators of progress, recognizing that Nigeria's challenges are interconnected.
Kingsley emphasized that individual projects must form part of a wider and coherent national development plan. Roads, power, agriculture, education, security, employment, industry, and social development should reinforce one another rather than operate as isolated interventions. He called on all presidential candidates to place their respective policies before Nigerians in sufficient detail for citizens to understand their promises and delivery plans.
The PRP presidential aspirant concluded by stating that the challenges confronting Nigeria require more than political communication; they require preparation, technical understanding, institutional capacity, competent personnel with integrity, proper coordination, responsible planning, and disciplined implementation. Kingsley is awaiting the Federal High Court judgment scheduled for November 2, 2026, in the pending matter concerning his participation in the 2027 presidential election.
