Nigerian-born women's empowerment advocate Shulamite Ezechi recently won Scotland's Social Leader of the Year award, highlighting the growing recognition of women's economic power. Eniola Peters, a seasoned HR professional with over 12 years of experience, shares her insights on empowering women and youths to reach their full potential. Her journey began after university, where she naturally found herself helping friends and people around her get jobs.
Peters' passion for helping people find their place and thrive led her to work with Jobberman, where she gained deeper experience in recruitment, talent management, and understanding the relationship between people and organizations. She noticed a recurring gap: many talented people were struggling to get jobs due to a lack of workplace readiness, confidence, and employability skills. This observation inspired her to establish MEG Consults, an HR and career development firm focused on helping individuals and organizations thrive.
Through MEG Consults and initiatives like Ready Set Work, Peters has trained and mentored thousands of young people, helping them become more prepared for the world of work. Her journey has also expanded into empowering women through Women in Career Advancement Network (WICAN) and Chayil Lady Ministry, where she focuses on helping women grow in identity, purpose, career, and life. Peters believes that wealth creation gives women a voice, confidence, and greater capacity to influence their communities.
The Guardian Woman Festival is gearing up for its 2027 edition, hosted by Federal Palace Resort, under the theme "Women as Wealth Creators." This theme spotlights women's economic power, financial independence, entrepreneurship, and their role in driving sustainable growth. Peters speaks on empowering women and youths to reach their full potential while harping on the festival's theme.
To Peters, women creating wealth goes beyond earning money; it means having the capacity to create value, own assets, build businesses and careers, make financial decisions, and create opportunities that outlive them. She believes that wealth creation is about moving from merely earning income to building something sustainable that gives women choices, provides for their families, and creates opportunities for others.
Peters is building sustainable wealth by intentionally creating multiple streams of value, rather than depending on one source of income. Through MEG Consults, she has built a business around her expertise in HR, recruitment, and career development. She also invests in intellectual property through her books, training programs, conferences, and communities. Peters' work in youth employability allows her to invest in the next generation.
Peters' charge to other women is to live intentionally and not merely busy lives. She advises women to give themselves permission to grow, evolve, and start again when necessary. Peters encourages women not to measure their journey against another woman's timeline and not to wait until everything is perfect before they begin. A purposeful woman, according to Peters, asks not just "What can I get from life?" but also "What can my life give?"
