The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adamu Musa, for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer and defrauding members of the public. Musa, who resides in Kureken Sani Quarters, Kano, was taken into custody on September 1, 2026, following a distress report from the 52 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Challawa, Kano. According to the police, Musa had been parading himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
Preliminary investigations revealed that Musa specialized in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public by presenting himself as a senior officer with influence over police recruitment and postings. To gain credibility, Musa circulated edited photographs and AI-generated images of himself superimposed with senior strategic commanders of the Nigeria Police Force. He used these doctored pictures, alongside the names of senior officers, to deceive victims into believing he could secure recruitment slots and transfers for a fee.
A search conducted at Musa's premises led to the recovery of several items, including a pair of black jacket uniforms, two pairs of black shoes, a pair of camouflage uniforms, a blue uniform top, and a cash sum of N300,000. The police also discovered that Musa had been using these items to deceive his victims. The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Kano State Police Command has cautioned members of the public to be wary of fraudsters and impersonators who use photo editing and AI technology to create fake images with senior officers. The command emphasized that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is completely free and that no officer will ever demand money for enlistment or posting. Residents are advised to verify the identity of anyone parading as a police officer, especially those wearing uniforms or soliciting money.
