Nigerian Fuji musician Adewale Ayuba, popularly known as Mr Johnson, has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu's bid for a second term in office. In a video shared by Goldmyne TV on Instagram, Ayuba expressed his support for the president, citing noticeable infrastructure development across the country. He pointed to the improvements in his hometown, Ikenné, Ogun State, as a personal reference point to assess the impact of the president's policies.
Ayuba highlighted the significant changes in the roads leading to his hometown, Ikenné. He noted that the journey, which previously took a long time and caused damage to his car due to deplorable roads, now takes only 25 to 30 minutes. The singer mentioned that he has five different roads to take to get to Ikenné, a stark contrast to the limited and poor road conditions before the Tinubu administration.
The musician emphasized that any leader who delivers tangible results should be given enough time to see their projects through. He stated that President Tinubu should be allowed to complete the projects and initiatives his administration has started. Ayuba expressed his satisfaction with the progress made, saying, "I know when I see the good news, I know when good things are happening in my nation."
Ayuba's endorsement of President Tinubu comes as a growing number of entertainers have publicly declared their support for the president's bid for a second term in 2027. Some of these entertainers, including Remi Surutu, Adams "Lege Miami" Kehinde, and Yomi Fash-Lanso, have formed EKO57, a political support group created to rally Nigerians behind Mr Tinubu's re-election.
The support group argued that several of the problems facing the country predated Mr Tinubu's administration, blaming some of them on the actions and attitudes of Nigerians. They also claimed that the president had handled several sensitive issues away from public attention, preventing them from escalating. According to the entertainers, Mr Tinubu's interventions had helped avert what could otherwise have developed into a more severe crisis.
Ayuba's endorsement is based on his personal experiences and observations from traveling across various states in Nigeria. He stated that what he has witnessed during these trips compelled him to speak out in support of the president's re-election bid. The musician noted that he has been traveling extensively and has seen firsthand the positive changes in the country.
President Tinubu faces a stern re-election bid next year as the country battles with its worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation, brought about by government policies which the president says are essential. Despite this, Ayuba's endorsement and the support of other entertainers may boost the president's chances of securing a second term in office.
