Nigerian man, Olakunle Ijaya, has opened up about the tragic loss of his wife, Fitila, who died from postpartum-related issues in March 2025. According to Ijaya, he and his wife enjoyed a near-perfect marriage, blessed with three wonderful children. Fitila was a supportive and understanding partner who made life easy for Ijaya. The couple got married in March 2018 and had a seemingly perfect life together. Ijaya described Fitila as a very understanding woman who was always supportive, especially when it came to finances. She wanted the best for their family and was not the nagging type.

Ijaya revealed that Fitila's postpartum-related issues began in September 2024, four months after giving birth to their third child in May 2024. He received a call from the office to return home as Fitila was behaving strangely, mumbling incoherent words and experiencing high blood pressure. She started doing things she wouldn't normally do, like talking to herself and saying she was tired of their children. Fitila also struggled with sleep and lost weight due to a lack of appetite. Within 24 hours, she had become a shadow of her former self.

Ijaya was confused and unsure of what was happening to his wife, as people around him mentioned that she was suffering from "abi siwin," a Yoruba term for a condition that occurs after childbirth. However, Ijaya noted that Fitila didn't experience this after giving birth to their first two children. He called their doctor, who referred them to a specialist. The specialist diagnosed Fitila with postpartum depression, which can affect women even after giving birth to their third or fourth child.

The specialist started treating Fitila, and within a few days, she began to recover and return to her normal self. Ijaya noted that nobody would have believed she had just experienced postpartum depression. However, in February 2025, Fitila suffered a relapse, and her condition worsened. She didn't recognize anyone, including Ijaya and their children, and would shout at them. Ijaya was even scared to leave the children alone with her.

Fitila's condition barely improved despite treatment, and she eventually passed away in March 2025. Ijaya expressed his pain and shock at losing his wife, who was his best friend and partner. He recalled how Fitila was always supportive and understanding, making life easy for him and their children. Ijaya's story highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing postpartum-related issues in women.
