Nigerian technology experts have advised young people seeking careers in technology to combine artificial intelligence skills with deep knowledge of real-world industries. This advice was given during a virtual ICT Career Talk organized by Bincom Dev Centre. The talk, themed "Agentic AI: The Next Frontier of Tech Careers," featured Engr. Akohamen Emmanuel Agenmonmen, Founder of SurfSpot Communications Limited, and Quazim Adeola Ogungbayi, an IT project and product management professional.
The experts explained the difference between generative AI and agentic AI, with Agenmonmen describing generative AI as a tool that creates content, while agentic AI can plan and execute a series of tasks within defined limits. Agenmonmen stressed that human oversight remains essential for the quality, cost, and outcome of AI-driven work. He noted that opportunities in AI extend beyond coding to include AI orchestration, workflow engineering, and industry-specific AI applications.
Quazim Adeola Ogungbayi urged aspiring professionals to begin with simple automated workflows, such as organizing emails or drafting responses for human review. He advised learners to dedicate about 90 days to building practical skills within their chosen field and emphasized the importance of governance measures, including limited system permissions, audit trails, and human review as AI agents gain access to sensitive operations.
The experts also discussed data privacy, with both speakers calling on individuals and organizations to exercise caution when sharing personal information with AI platforms. They insisted that responsible access controls and accountability should guide every AI deployment.
