The Nigeria Police Force has started investigating allegations of financial crimes totaling over ₦178 million against Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other national executive officers. A petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police on July 13, 2026, by A.F. Obainoke & Co. on behalf of some elected national officers of the PCRC made the allegations. The petition stated that Olaniyan and his alleged associates, who are also national executive officers of the PCRC, committed financial crimes amounting to over ₦178 million.
The petition was forwarded to the Director of Legal Services of the Nigeria Police Force for action by the office of the Inspector-General of Police on July 20, 2026. The document, which bears the stamp of the Directorate of Legal Services, shows that the petition was received on July 28, 2026. The allegations include financial crimes against Olaniyan and other national executive officers of the PCRC. The complainants were elected into various national offices of the PCRC in 2022, including the position of National Auditor, while Olaniyan was elected National Chairman and subsequently sworn into office.
This development comes amid a series of allegations and internal disputes surrounding the leadership of the PCRC under Olaniyan. In July, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 13, AIG Godwin Iguh Eze, postponed the PCRC Zone 13 election amid allegations of manipulation and procedural irregularities. According to the police statement on the postponement, the AIG said the election could not proceed because the nomination forms were not made available to the AIG, Zone 13, or the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer.
The allegations against Olaniyan and the PCRC leadership include financial mismanagement, abuse of office, and suppression of accountability. In March, some PCRC members accused Olaniyan of failing to account for more than ₦20 million reportedly generated from registration fees for the organisation's 2026 national leadership workshop. Sources alleged that more than 2,000 PCRC members from the six geopolitical zones registered for the workshop at ₦12,000 each in January and February 2026, generating more than ₦20 million.
The PCRC National Auditor, Usman Garu, was reportedly prevented from carrying out his statutory duties and publicly humiliated during an NEC meeting after insisting on auditing accounts dating back to 2022. Sources also alleged that members were subjected to levies without adequate transparency or approval from the National Executive Committee. Olaniyan's response to those allegations was not obtained despite repeated calls to his mobile phone.
Despite the allegations of financial impropriety, abuse of office, and electoral manipulation surrounding his leadership, Olaniyan is currently pushing to secure another tenure as National Chairman. Sources within the PCRC said the move has further heightened tensions within the organisation, particularly among members who have been demanding greater financial accountability and adherence to the PCRC constitution.
The controversy revives questions surrounding a previous investigation into the PCRC's finances. In 2023, an eight-member committee was established to investigate allegations involving ₦60.3 million allegedly embezzled by the chairman. Despite the committee's findings and recommendations, sources said no concrete action was taken. Aggrieved PCRC members have previously called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to intervene in the organisation's crisis, investigate the allegations, and restore accountability.
