The Nigeria Police Force has taken a significant step in enhancing its security operations by training 30 officers in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) technology. The officers, graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, completed the Basic Unmanned Aircraft Systems Course One organized by Nethawk Aviation Solutions, a Kaduna-based indigenous defense technology company. This training aims to strengthen the police's capacity to combat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities. The course is part of a planned program to train 100 police officers in UAS technology.

The training program, which is a collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and Nethawk Aviation Solutions, covered various aspects of UAS operations, including aviation ground school, basic and advanced UAS training, specialized mission qualification, mission planning, and strategic operations management. The company's founder and Chief Executive Officer, Flight Lieutenant Adedoyin Akerele (retd.), stated that the training would equip the officers with the relevant technical knowledge to support security operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements.

Nethawk Aviation Solutions has made significant contributions to Nigeria's aviation technology ecosystem, conducting unmanned aircraft operations in over 65 communities across the country. The company has four locally developed UAS solutions and platforms in active operation. Akerele disclosed that Nethawk had trained hundreds of aviation personnel for professional roles in law enforcement, the military, the oil and gas industry, and the power sector. These achievements reflect the company's commitment to indigenous expertise, practical technology development, and the advancement of Nigeria's aviation technology ecosystem.

The graduation ceremony, which marked a significant milestone in Nethawk's commitment to specialized aviation training, was attended by representatives of the Police Headquarters Air Wing and the Divisional Police Officer of Mando Police Station. The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Idri Bunu, who represented the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the initiative, noting that the integration of modern technology into policing is crucial in addressing the country's security challenges.

The training is expected to improve the effectiveness of the police in security operations and enhance the force's response to emerging threats. Akerele reaffirmed the company's commitment to developing indigenous aviation expertise and technological solutions for Nigeria's security sector. The company plans to continue providing specialized training to meet the country's evolving aviation and security needs.

The use of drone technology in security operations is becoming increasingly important in Nigeria, where terrorism and banditry have become significant threats. The Nigeria Police Force's collaboration with Nethawk Aviation Solutions is a step towards enhancing the country's security architecture. The training of 30 officers in UAS technology is a significant milestone in this effort.

The Nigeria Police Force's investment in drone technology is a testament to its commitment to leveraging modern technology to combat crime. The force's partnership with indigenous companies like Nethawk Aviation Solutions is also a demonstration of its efforts to develop local expertise and capacity in aviation technology.
