The Nigerian Police Force has announced the rescue of 34 kidnapped victims across three states in a 24-hour operation. According to Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the rescues were part of a series of successes by police operatives nationwide. In Sokoto, 30 victims were rescued after operatives and military personnel overpowered armed bandits who had attacked passenger vehicles. The bandits abandoned the victims and fled into the forest.
The rescue operation in Sokoto involved a joint effort between police operatives and military personnel. Two injured victims were evacuated for treatment after the rescue. In Gombe State, police operatives rescued three victims during a clearance operation at Ribado Ward, Funakaye LGA. Four suspected kidnappers were arrested, and three motorcycles were recovered as exhibits. The gang members released one additional victim due to pressure from the operatives.
In Rivers State, police operatives intercepted a suspected kidnap gang and rescued one victim. One suspect was arrested, and an AK-47 rifle with three rounds of ammunition and a tricycle were recovered. The police also arrested a murder suspect linked to the death of a victim who sustained severe burn injuries in Ebonyi State. The corpse was deposited for autopsy.
The police also made significant arrests in Ogun State, where a suspected murder suspect was arrested at a crime scene. Another suspect was nabbed in connection with a case of manslaughter involving the death of a newborn after alleged medical intervention. A blood-stained bedsheet was recovered as an exhibit in another suspected murder incident.
In addition to the kidnapping and murder cases, the police achieved other successes nationwide. In Lagos, two stolen vehicles were recovered after a foiled carjacking, and one suspect was arrested with a locally-made pistol in Enugu. Two suspected cultists with a firearm were arrested in Benue, and a suspected cable vandal was arrested in the Federal Capital Territory.
The police also responded to terrorist and bandit attacks in Adamawa and Kaduna States, recovering the remains of three victims. According to Iniedu, the various State Criminal Investigation Departments are investigating the cases. The police operatives' efforts aim to enhance security and combat crime across the country.
