The Nigeria Police Force has directed the deployment of 160 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on secondment, according to an internal police directive dated October 5, 2026. The directive, referenced DTO:051750/10/2026, was issued from the Nigeria Police Force Department of Operations in Abuja. The affected personnel were ordered to report for briefing and subsequent redeployment to the EFCC.

The directive was addressed to senior police formations and commands, including Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in charge of various units, Commissioners of Police across different commands, and other relevant formations. The document cited an earlier approval contained in Inspector-General of Police letter No. CB:3380/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.5/122 dated September 16, 2026, as the basis for the secondment.

The deployment involves personnel from the Police Force's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) capability, a specialised unit responsible for dealing with explosive-related threats and other bomb-disposal duties. The list of deployed personnel includes officers of various ranks, including Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), Inspectors (INSPR), Sergeants (SGT), and Corporals (CPL).

According to the directive, the nominated personnel are to be released by their respective formations “as a matter of urgency” and directed to report for briefing and redeployment to the EFCC. The police order specifically directed commanders to warn and release the affected personnel to report on or before Tuesday, October 13, 2026, for the necessary briefing and redeployment.

The directive warned that the order should be treated as “very important” and complied with without further reminder. The deployment is expected to enhance the capacity of the EFCC in its fight against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria. The EFCC is Nigeria's primary agency responsible for investigating and prosecuting financial crimes.

Some of the personnel deployed include ASP Patricia Okpe of EOD FHQ, ASP Ogochukwu Angela of EOD FHQ ABJ, and ASP Usoro Sunday of EOD B9 FCT. Others include INSPR Alex Yilkora of 45PMF, INSPR Mustapha Alhassan of 44 PMF, and SGT Dickmu Ayuba of 40 PMF. A total of 160 personnel are being deployed to the EFCC.

The deployment of the EOD personnel to the EFCC is in line with the Nigeria Police Force's efforts to support and enhance the capacity of other law enforcement agencies in the country. The move is also expected to strengthen collaboration and synergy among law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.
