The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its UK passport intervention exercise to October 30, 2026, citing continued high turnout and sustained demand from Nigerians seeking passport services. This is the second extension, following the previous one to October 3. The exercise, which began earlier, has seen a significant response from the Nigerian community in the UK.
The extension was announced by the NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on September 25, 2026. According to Akinlabi, the decision was made on the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The NIS urged Nigerian communities across the UK to take advantage of the additional period to renew their passports and attend the intervention exercise at designated centres.
The intervention exercise will take place in London, Manchester, and Aberdeen, with a venue for Cardiff to be announced later. The designated venues are London: 56–57 Fleet Street, Temple, London EC4Y 1JU; Manchester: Nigerian House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE; and Aberdeen: Hilton Convention Centre and 13 Smithfield Road, Aberdeen AB24 4NR. Applicants are advised to keep abreast of updates on the Nigeria High Commission’s website and the NIS’s official communication channels.
To ensure an orderly process, applicants are required to book appointments for the intervention exercise and strictly adhere to their scheduled dates and times. Bookings can be made through the designated online platform or via the Nigeria High Commission’s website. The NIS encouraged Nigerians in the UK to take advantage of the extension to renew their passports and make use of the designated intervention centres.
The Contactless Passport Application System remains operational, allowing eligible applicants to renew their passports without visiting a Nigerian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate. Applicants attending the intervention centres are required to present specific documents, including a completed application form, payment slips, and their current passport. Cash payments will not be accepted at the venues.
The NIS emphasised its commitment to efficient, transparent, and responsive passport service delivery to Nigerians in the diaspora. The Service urged applicants to cooperate with officials throughout the exercise.
