The Nigerien government has taken a significant step towards modernizing its public pharmaceutical industry with the validation of the strategic plan for 2027-2031 and the five-year action plan of the Nigérienne des Industries Pharmaceutiques (NIPHAR). The event was attended by various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, NIPHAR's management, and the board of directors. The plan aims to guide the decisions, investments, and organization of NIPHAR over the next five years.
According to the responsible planning, monitoring, and evaluation officer at the Directorate General of Public Health, the success of this plan depends on three key requirements: product quality, resource mobilization, and accountability. The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has pledged to support NIPHAR through a favorable regulatory environment, assistance in selling its products in the public supply chain, and advocacy with partners.
NIPHAR's Director General, Alhousseini Daouda, emphasized that the validated document will serve as a roadmap for the organization over the next five years. He expressed his commitment to making this plan a reality and called for clear engagement from all stakeholders to ensure its implementation. The plan's success is seen as crucial for the development of Niger's public pharmaceutical industry.
The Chairman of NIPHAR's Board of Directors, Dan Ango Mahamane, recalled that the steering committee, established on February 3, 2026, had accompanied each phase of the plan's development. He stressed that the plan's success depends on the concrete and sustainable engagement of the state, technical and financial partners, and NIPHAR.
The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene's representative urged NIPHAR's management and board of directors to establish a rigorous monitoring system with measurable results. He encouraged open and constructive discussions to ensure the plan is ambitious, realistic, and submitted to the Board of Directors for adoption as soon as possible.
The validation of the strategic plan and action plan is seen as a significant milestone for NIPHAR and the Nigerien public pharmaceutical industry. The plan is expected to enhance the quality of pharmaceutical products, improve resource mobilization, and promote accountability within the organization.
The implementation of the plan is expected to have a positive impact on the Nigerien healthcare system, which has faced numerous challenges in recent years. The modernization of the public pharmaceutical industry is seen as crucial for improving access to quality medicines and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services in the country.
